Insurance:
I am out of network with all insurance plans. Many health plans and employee benefit programs reimburse some portion of out-of-network therapy, though none of them promise to, and I cannot promise on their behalf. When you and I agree to work together, the financial agreement is ours: you pay me directly, and any reimbursement is a matter between you and your insurance company.
If you plan to seek reimbursement, it is worth a phone call to your insurer before our first session asking the following questions:
Do I have mental health benefits?
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What percentage of out-of-network services is covered?
What is the allowed amount for CPT code 90837? This is the question people rarely think to ask, and it is the one that sets the actual dollar figure. The percentage above applies to the allowed amount, not to my fee, so if the allowed amount is lower than my fee, your reimbursement will be smaller than the percentage suggests.
Is preauthorization required, and is there a limit on sessions per year?
How do I submit a claim, and by what deadline? Some plans use an online portal, some require a specific form, and nearly all have a filing deadline.
Psychological Services: I provide individual psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as family therapy.
I primarily see clients in-person at my office in Fisherman’s Terminal. Fees are the same for in-person and telehealth sessions. After we have met for 3 to 4 sessions, I would be glad to offer you my initial impressions and treatment recommendations moving forward. You should evaluate this information along with how you feel working with me thus far over this approximately one month period of therapy. We can then discuss whether to continue together or pursue other referrals. How frequently we meet depends on a variety of factors. I see psychotherapy patients at a frequency of between 1 to 3 sessions per week. We will discuss how many sessions per week are best for you/your family.
Individual Therapy: Your first session (60 minutes) will be billed at $190. My fee for follow up sessions is also $190 and the standard meeting time for psychotherapy is 50 minutes. It is up to you, however, to determine the length of time of your sessions. Requests to change the 50 minute session must be discussed in order for time to be scheduled in advance. If you can’t afford my full fee, I have a limited number of sliding scale/ reduced fee slots. Please feel free to ask me about the availability of these appointments.
Couples Counseling & Family Therapy: When working with couples or providing family therapy your first session will be either 60-minutes billed at $250 per session or, for 90-minute sessions you will be billed $375 per session.
Psychological Services for Children/Families, Parents/Caregivers: Special techniques are used with children and adolescents, including play therapy, and art therapy. My work with parents is one of collaboration. I strive to help parents deepen their understanding of their child's emotional and psychological life, increase their confidence as parents, and strengthen their relationship with their child. To achieve the best possible outcome for a child or adolescent, it is usually necessary for parents to take an active role so that positive changes may occur. This means that at different times, appointments may involve parent-only sessions, child/adolescent individual sessions, or the entire family together. I occasionally give "homework" assignments so that skills may be practiced between sessions.
